Te Arikinui, the Maori Queen, celebrates 40 years since her crowning this week. The details of the celebrations are below.
Today: 7am opening of event, day's activities dominated by kawe mate (remembrance) for Tainui who have died in the past year.
Tomorrow: Commemorations of the passing of King Koroki. Kapa haka performances.
Friday: Kawe mate (remembrance) for those throughout the country who have died in the last year. Arrival of Tuwaharetoa. Minister of Maori affairs Parekura Horomia expected to attend. Educational and health exhibition at Paterson Park. 6pm: Night sports at Paterson Park. 8pm: League field No 2, Launch of documentary on Dame Te Atairangikaahu.
Saturday: Arrival of other iwi from around the country and delegations from Pacific islands. Ruby jubilee sports and cultural parade leaves Queen St. Kapa haka performances from around the country. Sports events including netball and league. Kingitanga Trail: Guided coach tours of significant tribal landmarks. Royal gala celebration including music and dance from throughout New Zealand and the Pacific. Music festival including performances by Aaradhna and Che Fu and the Krates.
Sunday: Church service and more sports including league (NZ Maori men v Pacific Islands, NZ Maori women Toa v Pacific Islands) and Rugby (Maori Invitation v Pacific Islands), main rugby field.
Monday: Prime Minister Helen Clark due to attend. Live theatre: He Taonga Te Tamaiti Kimiora.
Tuesday: Waka parade following jubilee address by Dame Te Atairangikaahu. Tributes from schools attended by Dame Te Ata: Te Wharekura o Rakaumanga, Waikato Diocesan School for Girls, Taniwharau. Evening ruby jubilee cabaret featuring the Moanaroa whanau and the Maori Volcanics.
