Just over half the available voters in the Maori electorates had voted by election day.
Including early votes and votes on the day, just 53.1 per cent of Maori voters had chosen to elect their available candidates.
That was down on the national figure of 68.2 per cent of Kiwis across the board who had given their election ticks by Saturday - although more Maori special votes were expected in the coming days, with the final tallies declared on October 4.
Labour almost whitewashed the Maori results, taking six of the seven seats. But for Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell winning the Waiariki electorate, the red side would have had a clean sweep.
