KEY POINTS:
Tame Iti's lawyer Annette Sykes has called for a special inquiry by the United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Peoples into the Government's conduct over last month's police raids.
Mr Iti and Ms Sykes spoke to the Tuhoe people and reporters at Ruatoki's Te Rewa Rewa Marae.
Ms Sykes said work was already under way to lay a complaint with the United Nations special rapporteur.
She encouraged the Tuhoe people to make statements about the raids to any inquiry.
It had been 28 days since the property of many innocent people was seized, she said.
"When are the computers and the cellphones that have actually made this whole community absolutely impossible to communicate with going to be returned to this comm-unity.
"It's absolutely unfair that after search warrants were executed, families have not had vital communication links restored to them."
Mr Iti said the terrorism legislation was flawed and he saw dangers in it.
He would not comment about the alleged military-style training camps because of the firearms charges he was facing, but said he had nothing to hide.
Police should have just come to him to discuss any concerns, he said.
