KEY POINTS:
The Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC) has awarded $1.5 million in grants to develop the Maori health research workforce.
The grants were made through the HRC's Career Development Awards programme and recipients included Dr Sarah-Jane Paine and Dr Lynne Pere, who received postdoctoral fellowships.
Dr Paine is from the Sleep/Wake Research Centre at Massey University in Wellington and will use hers to continue her research into the circadian body clock and how this clock regulates sleep timing. She will compare results of Maori and non-Maori.
Dr Pere, from the Health Services Research Centre at Victoria University of Wellington, will use hers to investigate indigenous mental health.
