Music around the clock to entertain those waiting in line at Donnelly Park for Super Saturday.
Super Saturday worked a treat around the motu, and in MidCentral 5379 people were vaccinated, 480 alone at Donnelly Park in Levin. Super Saturday put MidCentral in third place for number of doses given per 100 residents.
More than 16,400 vaccinations were provided throughout the week, surpassing MidCentral's initial goal of 15,000.
MidCentral provided 28 clinics on Super Saturday, with 16 in Palmerston North and the rest throughout the region.
Iwi Muaūpoko and Raukawa again pulled out all the stops for a vaccination clinic at Donnelly Park on Saturday.
There was food, music, presents and a chance to go into the draw for some great prizes. Members from other organisations, like Horowhenua District Council, also turned up to lend a hand, while the Māori Wardens kept a close eye on the traffic flow, directing drivers where to go, where to stop, where to wait.
Former Silver Fern Waimarama Taumaunu and current Silver Fern Tiana Metuarauwere turned up at Donnelly Park to lend the Raukawa and Muaūpoko crews a hand, handing out sausages, and egg and bacon sandwiches to the newly vaccinated.
There was music throughout the day and nurses were available to answer all questions about the vaccine. National flags, including many from Pacific nations, were flown at the entrance to the drive-in.
Vaccinations are really important to the two visiting Silver Ferns as Tiana's dad, Waimarama's husband, is a border worker. "We need to keep our whanau safe," Waimarama said.
Tiana said the arrangements for netball matches are a bit strange but she's glad the games have started again. For those hesitant about getting the vaccine, she had a simple message: keep your whanau safe.
"My granddad talked about the loss of many people during the flu epidemic in 1918, right after the loss of many of our men in World War I," Waimarama said. "Vaccinations are really important to keep your whanau safe."
Ōtaki MP Terisa Ngobi and her staff were there, as well as Mayor Bernie Wanden, to give their support to the effort.
Other opportunities to get the vaccine were available that day at Berrys Pharmacy in Liverpool St and at Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom in Foxton, as well as Māoriland In Ōtaki.
