Levin's RJs has scored a major coup which could lead to many more jobs for Horowhenua. The company has signed a conditional agreement to take over a few New Zealand brands, such as Heards, Fabulicious, Oddfelows and Mackintosh, from Nestle.
The deal which is expected to be finalised in a matter of weeks will strengthen RJs position as one of the largest confectionery manufacturers in the country.
The RJ's management team plan to work closely with Nestle on a manufacturing transition plan that will see products transferred by the end of 2018. Tim York, CEO of RJ's said "We are really excited about this acquisition. It gives RJ's greater strength within the confectionery category and broadens our confectionery offer beyond the licorice segment."
RJs exports to Australia, Canada, USA and UK and has seen strong growth in the last five years, enough to double its business.
"We are passionate about New Zealand manufacturing and this conditional acquisition will increase our manufacturing presence in NZ," York said.
