North Island 8 ball tournaments coming to Levin Cossie club in 2022

Levin Cosmopolitan Club is the host venue for two major Clubs NZ 8 ball tournaments in 2022.

Levin Cosmopolitan Club has been chosen to host not one but two of Clubs New Zealand's official 8 ball tournaments in 2022 – the North Island ladies and the North Island open.

The club applied for the right to host a tournament at a delegates meeting held during an earlier Clubs NZ tournament this year, and was surprised and honoured to be given the opportunity to host two.

This is the first time the club has hosted any of the eight annual tournaments so they will be reaching out to previous hosts, such as the Upper Hutt Cossie Club, for ideas and support in producing events they believe will bring a boost to Levin's economy.

"Of course, tournaments of this size bring a cost to the club and to help us we are [also] seeking sponsorship [from local businesses]," said Pam Morris, Levin Cossie Club's sponsorship co-ordinator.

These tournaments attract about 120 players for the ladies tournament and up to 200 for the open from throughout New Zealand, as well as spectators and supporters.

Each tournament runs for five days, with player ages ranging from 10-11, through to late 70s.

The club replaced all its pool tables with quality-made American ash tables, from Heaphy Billiards, for the Easter classic competition this year so is now the perfect venue for the tournaments.

"Sponsors will have a table bearing the name of their business as well as extensive advertising within the club and further [afield]," Morris said.

"Additionally, we have an in-house television channel and the [tournament] programme, which is always a souvenir [for the players] to take home," she said.

The club is also planning to have tournament shirts printed and any business that wants to become a major sponsor of either tournament will have its name and logo on the shirts.

The Clubs New Zealand North Island Women's 8 Ball Tournament will be held on April 26- 30, followed by the Clubs New Zealand North Island 8 Ball Tournament on May 31-June 4, 2022.
