Get-Go.nz: A great way to connect people with jobs in Horowhenua

If you are looking for a(nother) job in Horowhenua or if your business needs more staff and you have trouble finding anyone locally, help is here.

Employment initiative Get-Go, an expansion of the youth programme Pathways Horowhenua, which includes workers of all ages, was launched this week in the presence of local employers, educators and community leaders.

Get-Go is part of the Horowhenua New Zealand Trust and its CEO, Sarah Ryan, said:
"It is not just a job listing website, but rather a way to directly connect talent with available jobs and a variety of career paths.

"It is also a way to showcase our employers. To tell the stories of their business, their values and the breadth of opportunities available with them."

Get-Go is connected to the usual portals job seekers use, such as Trade Me Jobs and Seek and is an example of a community that cares, she said.

"People are leaving here because they do not see the local opportunities, so we have created a specifically Horowhenua portal to ensure employers are connected instantly with our people, in whichever stage they are at in their career.

"People are the biggest asset to a business but also the biggest challenge."

Local employer Geoff Lewis, from Lewis Farms, sees plenty of opportunities for locals.

"There is a tremendous demand for food production, infrastructure, housing,
construction, roading, even recreation and we are really struggling to fill the demand for staff.

"Get-Go offers workers and employers a complete package using amazing technology."

Lewis said Get-Go is not just about jobs, it is about careers and about showcasing the district as a great place to live and work.

Realising the Horowhenua is a low socio-economic district he said the goal behind Get-Go is to increase socio-economic wellbeing of its residents.

"We would like to increase average household income by say $10,000. That is easy to achieve with enough motivated, skilled, and hard working workers."

A government grant has made this project possible and local schools and training providers are fully involved in this.

Geoff Lewis said: "I believe the opportunity is here, in Horowhenua. We need to inspire today's school leavers as they become tomorrow's employees, and give people the option to stay here, to grow here - to come back here - and to move here."

Get-Go executive lead Shane Gorinski said the initiative was born from the need to connect local employers directly with local talent.

"Horowhenua has over 1000 jobs listed on Trade Me or Seek per year, yet we know our employers are still having a hard time finding the right people."

Sarah Ryan said Get- Go's initial focus is on getting talent to register on the site.

"Once we have both sufficient people registered and jobs loaded, our website will be launched to the wider community. In the meantime, we encourage those who want to become a Get-Go Employer, joining many of Horowhenua's largest employers, to contact us by email to info@get-go.nz."
