KEY POINTS:
What are you doing personally to make a difference?
I walk as much as I can. If there is an opportunity to walk somewhere, even if it will take well over an hour to do so, I will. I seem to spend half my life turning lights off too.
Trelise Cooper sold me on the recyclable shopping bags ,and a company called Onya Bags makes these super cool backpacks and shopping bags made of a super light parachute material. They fold up into a tiny wee purse you can hook to your key ring. If I walk the 45 minutes to the supermarket for chocolate [justifiable consumption] I always have a backpack on my key chain to carry my stuff home!
What more could you do?
There is so much more I can do. I'm avoiding changing my light bulbs as I find the new ones aesthetically repulsive. I'm also not keen on the mercury content, or the fact that the one I bought lasted only two months. It might also be my imagination but I think they give off a weird dull light.
What is your biggest environmental sin?
My biggest sin? I drive an old Land Rover that carries surfboards and rugby gear and diving gear ... Oh, but I do walk when I can.
Global warming - man or nature?
I think it's a combination of things. I know the planet will always go through cycles and phases despite humanity. On the other hand, we sure as hell ain't helping things. Nature is 'way bigger than mankind, but while we are vacationing here we seem to be doing our best to trash the place.
It's a big old nasty nature 'n' man combo.
