KEY POINTS:
The Herald is asking high-profile people about their environmental friendliness.
This week: Megan Alatini, entertainer
What are you doing personally to make a difference?
My immediate family and I have started our own recycling habit. The recycling bins provided by our city council are too small, so we have put aside cardboard boxes in which we separate cans, plastics and glass. I am also more aware of purchasing environmentally friendly products, use the grocery store reusable bags instead of the constant plastic bags, and generally make my children more aware of the nasty effects rubbish and lack of recycling has on our earth and environment.
What more could you do?
I feel terrible because I know I could do so much more. The daily rigours of life and plain and simple laziness has prevented me from doing more. I know we could waste less water, use more bio-degradable products and materials, recycle more, minimise household waste and cut down on the amount of rubbish we as a nation produce. The simple rule of the three Rs come to mind, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
What is your biggest environmental sin?
Laziness. There have been times I've been aware of bottle banks and the like but have been too lazy to get myself there. Or simply ignoring our recycling routine for the day, knowing we'd start again the next.
Global warming - true or false?
True. Scientific evidence and statistics has shown that Earth has grown warmer over the past decade or so and people are the greatest influence.
