KEY POINTS:
What are you doing personally to make a difference?
I have decided never to go overseas - if I can help it. This is no great burden, as I can see the world on the Discovery Channel. I do turn out lights, because I am mean. I refuse to own a gas-guzzling speedboat or an SUV.
What more could you do?
I could stop drinking bottled water - it is convenient to buy bottled water when I stop at a service station to get fossil fuels.
What is your biggest environmental sin?
Plastic bags. They are so useful. But I accept that they are on the way out and that before long, if I'm foolish enough to use them, crowds of people will start following me around shouting: "Unclean! Unclean!"
Global warming - man or nature?
This is one of the most difficult arguments ever. Everywhere I look there are ice shelves breaking away ... and yet the captain on an Antarctic exploring icebreaker said that he struck the thickest ice he had ever come across in the Ross Sea last year. Nonetheless, we have an obligation to live in a more environmentally friendly way.
