KEY POINTS:
What are you doing personally to make a difference?
In my work as Conservation Minister I support a wide range of work aimed at reducing the effects of climate change, both by my department and in the community. This includes six climate change projects by DoC.
On a personal level, there is a compost system in our household and we use recycling systems both at home and in my electorate office. At Parliament we are one of the few offices to run our own composting system and the whole office uses small recyclable waste bins for food scraps. The only bins in individual parliamentary offices now are for paper, which is recycled through Parliament's recycling system.
I walk to work while in Wellington and recently I have been planting native trees on the road verge outside my Wellington residence. I grow my own fruit and vegetables, both at home and at my electorate office.
What more could you do?
I'm sure we could recycle paper better, both at Parliament and in my electorate office, by remembering to use double-siding and re-using paper for notebooks etc.
What is your biggest environmental sin?
I should walk around my electorate office more often rather than driving my car.
Global warming - true or false?
True.
