Climate change: The invasive African mosquito, not content will infiltrating Texas and the south-eastern US, has capitalised on the changing climate to arrive in California.
Extremely difficult to control, the mozzie can survive for months without water, and is well known for spreading dengue and yellow fever.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it's "likely that Ae. aegypti [the scientific name of the mosquito] is continually responding or adapting to environmental change."
Climate change studies predict that dengue-which infects as many as 100 million people a year-will expose an additional two billion by 2080.
