KEY POINTS:
More than 3000 native trees are expected to be planted near the country's three main cities over the next three weekends, in events combining physical fitness with combating climate change. The first event of a Carbon Crusade will be tomorrow at Pakiri Beach, starting at 10am.
Participants walk or run a 15km off-road course, with each person planting four trees in designated areas along the way. The second event will be in Wellington's Ohariu Valley on October 6 and finally at Putiki Farm, near Christchurch, on October 13.
The crusade is sponsored by cereal-maker Hubbards and four other companies.
