Auckland stuntwoman Zoe Bell's acting career continues to flourish. She was pulling double duty at the Toronto Film Film Festival, with two movies screening at the event.
Under the moniker, "Bloody Holly", Bell is part of the underdog roller derby team which is the focus of Whip It, the directorial debut by Drew Barrymore. Barrymore also starts in the film alongside Ellen Page (Juno), singer Eve and Juliette Lewis. The film opens in the United States next week.
Bell also features as "Rawhide" in Bitch Slap, a tribute of sorts to the notoriously busty exploitation of B-movie director Russ Meyer, which also made its screen debut in Toronto.
The film was directed by Rick Jacobson, one of the directors working on the Auckland production of R-rated television series Spartacus. Bitch Slap also features Lucy Lawless (who Bell stunt-doubled for in her Xena days and who is now in Spartacus), Michael Hurst (also a director on Spartacus) as well as their respective former Xena and Hercules co-stars Renee O'Connor and Kevin Sorbo.
Meanwhile, Cliff Curtis stars as a San Francisco chopper paramedic in the new NBC series Trauma, which starts on US television on Monday.
