It's a sad reality that we'll never be able to see David Bowie play live again, but announced today is a concert which will hopefully help to make up for it, because though the Thin White Duke is no longer here, his songs will live on.
Waiting In The Sky concerts in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch will bring together six vocalists, with a live band fronted by Eddie Rayner, to perform 25 Bowie masterpieces.
Finn Andrews of The Veils, Jordan Luck, Alastair Riddell of Space Waltz, Zaine Griff of The Human Instinct, and rising artists Skyscraper Stan and Olympia, will perform tracks from across Bowie's significant catalogue, with Eddie Rayner's Dark Horses delivering that signature Bowie wall of sound.
There's no final track list yet, but hopefully hits like Space Oddity, Changes, Starman, Life On Mars? Jean Genie, Rebel Rebel, Fame, Heroes, Ashes To Ashes, Let's Dance, and Young Americans are there, and these six distinctive vocalists can help us celebrate Bowie's genius as we mourn his passing. The shows will be held at the ASB Theatre in Auckland on Friday April 15, the St James Theatre in Wellington on Saturday April 16, and the Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch on Tuesday April 19. Tickets are on sale today.
