Malik is nominated for Choice Male Hottie, but he'd rather miss the awards show than potentially see his ex-girlfriend Perrie Edwards.
Malik and Edwards, both 22, broke off their engagement in August after being together for three years.Her band, Little Mix, will performing on stage at the awards in Los Angeles.
He might also want to avoid an awkward moment when the Male Hottie winner is announced. Malik is up against his old band - One Direction.
