KEY POINTS:
Christchurch youngsters Alex Philpott and Max Tetley had been busking less than a week when they were talent spotted by a star of international calibre.
Actor, comedian and singer Jack Black stopped to watch 10-year-old Philpott and 11-year-old Tetley in Christchurch's Cathedral Square yesterday.
After placing money in the boys' hat, Black's manager approached Tetley's mother and asked if the duo would play at tonight's Tenacious D concert at the Christchurch Town Hall.
Philpott said he spotted Black as he tipped the pair, but thought it was just a doppelganger as he did not know Black was on tour in New Zealand.
"I like all the movies he's in and everything. And I like his music, especially that song The Greatest Song in the World [Tribute]," said an excited Philpott.
The boys, who are close school friends, only started busking together last week. Philpott provides guitar and vocals, while Tetley plays the drums.
Philpott said the pair cover a variety of classic rock artists, including the Rolling Stones and AC/DC.
The pair would only play one song this evening, but would stick around to watch the concert and attend the official after party, said Philpott.
Though both boys are eagerly awaiting their concert debut this evening, Philpott said Tetley might be a little bit nervous.
"But I don't know what stage fright is, I've never experienced it before. I just love being in front of an audience."
