Second and third places were taken by C.S. Lewis, author of The Chronicles of Narnia series and Peter Pan creator J.M. Barrie.
Prolific English children's writer Enid Blyton who wrote the Famous Five series and the Noddy books only made tenth place.
Also in the top ten was Dr Seuss and best-selling writer Jacqueline Wilson.
