"Honestly, this was such a terribly organised event, it felt like we were at Fyre Festival," one person wrote.
"Worst festival I've ever been to by a long shot. Hope it gets cancelled next year," another said.
Someone else branded the event "Fyre Festival 2.0".
"What an absolute joke. It was such poor organisation, worse than Fyre Festival," another said.
Organisers have been forced to comment, releasing a statement on Facebook yesterday that said the situation "sucked" for all involved.
It read: "As those in attendance know, the Hunter Valley last night experienced an extreme weather system that included torrential rain and a high multitude of lightning strikes within close proximity causing an initial show stop and eventual evacuation of the event.
"This sucked for every single person on site. The safety of all patrons, artists and staff is of absolute priority."
They also explained the NSW licensing conditions placed upon the event — limiting drinks to two per person — caused "unacceptable congestion at the bars", adding two minibuses carrying 32 members of bar staff broke down on the night and left the festival severely understaffed.
However, the explanation did little to prevent the fury of those attending, with many slamming the "shocking" evacuation, claiming all organisers did was usher them out of the venue and onto the road.
"The 'evacuation' was really just you guys dumping everyone off roche estate/wine machine property to absolve any potential liability for damage or injury," one person wrote.
"Security were very aggressive, we were mushed out by horses and my friend was head butted by one of the horses. We were scared and seeking shelter and instead we were forced into the storm," another said.
One person said they witnessed a tree fall in front of them leaving a guy with a broken leg.
"So much for duty of care," they fumed.
But not everyone was furious, with some people saying they had a "brilliant" time and calling those complaining "spoilt".
"I honestly had the best time. I was super impressed with the police, the paramedics, the bar staff and the patrons. Yes the storm was f**ked but we can't control the weather. Everyone is acting so spoilt and privileged. I would honestly like to see everyone complaining in a situation like fyre festival. Watch the doco. This was nothing like that."
Fyre Festival — the mastermind of entrepreneur Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule — is widely classes as one of the biggest festival fails of all time.
