Woman dies at Australian music festival

A young woman is dead and another is in an induced coma after attending the Stereosonic music festival in Sydney.

More than 48,000 revellers flocked to the festival at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday, where a 25-year-old woman fell ill and later died.

A 22-year-old woman, believed to be from the UK, was found unconscious about 5pm and was taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.

She was placed in an induced coma and her condition has improved to serious but stable on Sunday.

Festival organisers have expressed their sympathies to the family of the woman who died.

"Totem Onelove conveys our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the patron who tragically passed away," the organisation said in a statement.

"We appeal to our audience that they stay safe and look out for each other."

Police said they were disappointed that 69 people were charged with drug supply and possession offences, including 57 charges for MDMA possession and one for LSD.

Assistant Commissioner Frank Mennilli said police operations were continuing but the number of people arrested was "alarming and disappointing, especially after we warned revellers about the dangers of drug use," he said.
