William Shatner is considering a return to the Star Trek franchise even though he turned down director J J Abrams' advances to feature in the first of the filmmaker's new movies.
The original Captain Kirk has confirmed Abrams, who is a producer on the third film in the updated series, has reached out to him again, and this time Shatner is interested.
Speaking at the Nashville Comic Con in Tennessee, the actor said, "He (Abrams) said, 'I'm calling, Bill, because the director of the Star Trek movie, the next one, has had an idea where you might be involved in it. So I am calling to see if you would be interested'."
Shatner told fans he would be interested if the role is "meaningful", adding he would be "delighted" to be part of Star Trek 3, which will be directed by Bob Orci.
