KEY POINTS:
So much for a canvas - artist Carlos Capelan paints the signature work of the Auckland Triennial directly on the wall of the Auckland Art Gallery's new gallery.
New Zealand's premier contemporary art exhibition, held every three years, starts tomorrow at venues throughout Auckland. Works by 35 artists from 20 countries will explore the theme of turbulence - the complex and unpredictable cultural and political environment in which we live.
Capelan's Always There 2, which stretches 12m, will be painted over at the end of the three-month exhibition. He is the inaugural researcher-in-residence at AUT's school of art and design this year.
