New Zealand hip-hop is riding high in the charts and now radio is following suit, with urban station Mai FM drawing the most Auckland music listeners each week, according to the latest radio survey results.
Newstalk ZB still rules the roost when it comes to listeners but Mai FM is dominating the music scene with 149,800 different listeners each week, followed by ZM and The Edge.
The results see Mai FM knock the top-40 station ZM from the prime position and sees The Breeze overtake Classic Hits as the most popular easy-listening station.
Mai FM also managed to get more listeners to tune in for longer, climbing the Auckland market share ranks to fourth place - behind Newstalk, Coast FM and the Rock.
Nationally, The Edge is still the most popular music station, drawing the most listeners, followed by The Rock.
