Waters to bring his Wall to town

Just as the dinosaurs take over Vector Arena this week comes news the venue is playing host to another ancient monster - Pink Floyd's The Wall.

The 1979 concept album is one of rock's biggest sellers and the band's former bassist-singer Roger Waters, the driving force behind the original record, is bringing the lavish theatrical production to Auckland.

Waters was last here in 2007 at North Harbour Stadium playing Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and other songs from the British art-rock band's long history.

But The Wall show, though indoors, is a grander affair, big on special effects, including gigantic puppets, projected animations and the 10-metre-by-70-metre wall of the title - all 424 bricks of it - being built on stage during the performance. Also, a children's choir will join Waters and backing band for the performance of the album's biggest hit, Another Brick in the Wall (Part II).

It was the highest-grossing indoor tour in North America last year, earning about $110 million.

Tickets for the show on February 19 next year are available through Ticketmaster pre-sale from Thursday July 7 at 3pm with general sales opening Monday July 11 at 9am.
