He teased Mission Impossible fans in November last year when he was seen doing his own stunts - including hanging from the side of a plane.
But Tom Cruise slips into action man mode again in a suitably thrilling new trailer to whet the appetite for the fifth installment - entitled Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.
A shirtless Cruise, 52, displays his physical fearlessness with an impressive physique and his even more impressive athleticism as he reprises the role of Ethan Hunt.
In the opening sequence Cruise displays his gym-honed body as he stands chained with his arms above his head.
Introduced to new counterpart Ilsa Faust, the new lethal agent played by Rebecca Ferguson, Cruise is helped to escape the clutches of an enemy and uses only his feet to hit out at the kidnappers.
In another thrilling scene, the actor is seen driving a bike off a cliff into an explosion as he speeds off on two wheels.
Mission Impossible 5, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, will see the Field Agent for secret agency Impossible Mission Force in action for a fifth time.
Producers have noticeably brought the release date forward to July 31, to avoid a clash with Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The preceding fourth installment Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol was released in December 2011 and grossed more than $700 million at the box office worldwide.
Set to the backdrop of Ready Or Not by The Fugees, the trailer appears to show Hunt on a mission alongside Faust to bring down "the syndicate".
Hunt calls them a "rogue nation," which are trained to do what Hunt and Dunn do and go against the Impossible Missions Force.
And the follow up is sure to be an exciting one as Cruise was straight up to heights of 5000-feet on what was to be a clear day for flying in the rural UK location.
Back in November, the Hollywood actor surpassed himself when he put himself in grave danger, hanging from the side of an Airbus A400M in a full tailored suit while the aircraft flew over the UK.
Cruise, who's scaled the world's tallest building and free climbed Colorado's 2000ft canyons for the Mission Impossible movie franchise, was once again going solo on the death-defying stunt.
Speaking recently about his passion for thrill-seeking, Cruise said: "I've often sat on airplanes, looked out and thought, 'What it would be like out there on the wing? This is the (stuff) I think about.
"That's me the whole time. I was standing right over the tires when we landed. It's nerve-racking for everyone else, but pretty exciting for me."
Cruise - famous for action hero roles in movies such as Roy Miller in Knight And Day and Maverick in cult classic Top Gun - was shown the ropes by a double wearing his identical suit and an engineer wearing a boiler suit.
But the stunt pro didn't need much convincing when it came to doing it himself, in what was to be his most ambitious stunt to date.
When Cruise scaled the Burj Khalifa in Dubai for the movie's prequel Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, he described the experience as a "learning on the job" approach, in conversation with Total Film.
The trailer shows comedy actor Simon Pegg back in character as Benji Dunn for a third time, acting as Hunt's right hand man.
Meanwhile, the leading lady in Ethan's life is Ilsa this time around and she proves herself early on with a James Bond-inspired bikini scene for the trailer.
