The first trailer for the upcoming live-action Detective Pikachu movie has dropped, with Ryan Reynolds voicing the super-cute eponymous lead character.
The Legendary Pictures film is a missing-person mystery which sees Detective Pikachu team up with human protagonist Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) to help in the search for Tim's dad Harry — who also happens to be a private eye and Detective Pikachu's former crime-fighting partner.
The hugely successful Pokemon franchise, which first emerged in Japan in 2006, regained popularity in 2016 with the release of the Pokemon Go app that allowed followers to find and capture virtual creatures all over the globe.
The original animated Pokemon series has been running for 20 seasons and the franchise has sold almost 300 million video games to date.
