Tensions reached boiling point between Boy George and Kelly Rowland on The Voice last night.
The two coaches were both desperate for Ricky Nifo, who nailed his rendition of Bonnie Raitt's I Can't Make You Love Me, to join their respective teams.
"Sometimes doing the obvious thing is the worst thing you can do. It's like, 'Oh, go to Kelly because she's a soul goddess,' and she is," George said to the contestant.
"And sometimes choosing a guy with a hat on is the obvious thing to do, OK?" Kelly said.
George took offence to Kelly's comment and replied, "Oh hold on a second, I'm just a guy with a hat on?"
A visibly annoyed George continued and told Ricky, "I've got 56 years of experience. I can teach you a lot. I've sung with Luther Vandross, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder. You know what I mean. I'm your guy, I'm a soul guy. That's what I do," he said.
Kelly added that she has also sung with those artists, but George shut her down.
"But I'm not just a man in a hat and neither are you," he said to Ricky.
After a long deliberation, Ricky chose to join Kelly's team and as the successful coach escorted the singer back stage, Boy George made it clear to Joe Jonas and Delta Goodrem that he wasn't going to forget about Kelly's comment in a hurry.
"She did call me a man in a hat," he said to the other coaches. "I'm sorry, f**k off."
"I don't think she meant that," Delta told George.
"Really?" he replied. "Then why did she say it? B**chy."
As Kelly returned to the set, George was still venting to Joe about the comment and told the former Destiny's Child singer, "I'm going to say I'm not a man in a hat, I'm an icon in a f***ing hat".
Kelly tried to bury the hatchet with the Culture Club star with a hug and said, "I love you, George."
But he wasn't in the mood. "Move on," he told her as he rejected her hug.
"Why did you push me away from you?" a shocked Kelly asked him.
"I can't handle you, you're just too much for me," he replied.
