Viewers unimpressed with MKR's faux-French contestants

So-called 'socialites' Ash and Camilla put on a French-themed evening on MKR

They haven't been afraid to describe themselves as socialites who 'bring some class' to the My Kitchen Rules competition.

But all that talk might have set Melbourne duo Ash and Camilla up for a fall, after viewers pointed out some not-so-sophisticated moments of their session in the kitchen, which screened on TV2 last night.

The self-confessed Francophiles prepared a French feast for the judges and their fellow contestants, a gutsy move given one of the judges is inimitable Parisian chef Manu Fiedel.

Despite the women crowing that they love 'everything French' - and even describing their home of Melbourne as 'the Paris of the south' - some viewers were quick to put them back in their place.

'Girls, you're from Melbourne ... not Montmartre,' quipped Twitter user Bryce McCarter, referring to the district in Paris.

Meanwhile another viewer noted that despite the theme, they hadn't gone with French wine.

'Pulling out all the stops with the Jacob's Creek foine woine doining' wrote user Ricksta.

He wasn't the only one to compare the duo to characters from Australian comedy series Kath & Kim, with one user saying they were reminded of pretend posh shop keepers Prue and Trude from the show.

'Some serious TV crossover happening here - it seems Prue and Trude are cooking tonight' wrote one.

Francophile Ash had a momentary downfall when the judges asked what their restaurant name Dans La Maison meant in English.

'Doesn't it mean something about our house,' a dumbfounded Ash stumbled. Camilla quickly saved her, explaining: 'Literally translated it means, in the house.'

Others kept their criticism strictly on the food, saying Ash and Camilla should have lost points because they didn't make their own baguette.

Despite a few slip-ups including adding lemon to the steak tartare - Fiedel unsurprisingly said he preferred his own recipe for the traditional French dish - the pair finished up in second place after their seafood stew saved the day.
