This clip was a very collaborative project. Bobby Brazuka knew he wanted to somehow combine the Latinaotearoa signature skull art motif with the much loved Day of the Dead theme and we went from there.
Bobby called on his good friend, Nick Hutchinson who happened to be an awesome DOP while I called on the incredible talents of James Hutchinson who did all the animation in my short film Friday Tigers. We were blessed with an outstanding costume and make up department, so even before we got into post, it was looking pretty colourful.
But this video really came alive in James' animation studio in Karekare. Some of the backgrounds we used were taken from actual photos of places and walls in Mexico from one of his travels.
We had such a great cast and crew and the highlight for me apart from getting down with the gorgeous Jennifer Zea to encourage more booty shaking (her in a sexy red dress - me in dusty old jeans) was turning Anna Coddington in Frida Kahlo.
