Prog-rockers Yes - perhaps best known for the song Owner of a Lonely Heart - play in New Zealand for the first time in their 40-year career with a show at Vector Arena on April 1.
But before that 1983 hit, Yes were one of the pioneers of prog-rock in the 70s with long, sprawling songs and virtuoso playing on albums such as Fragile and Close To The Edge (both from 1972).
Many musicians have been part of the band over the years, including keyboardist Rick Wakeman who influenced much of its 70's output. The current line-up consists of founder and bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe who joined in 1970, long-time drummer Alan White, singer Benoit David, who replaced original singer Jon Anderson in 2008, and keyboardist Geoff Downes who has been associated with the band for many years.
In the early 2000s the band went on hiatus but got back together in 2008 and this year released new album, Fly From Here, produced by Trevor Horn (whose credits include everything from the Buggles Video Killed the Radio Star to ABC's The Lexicon of Love among many others). He also did 1983's 90125, which had Owner of a Lonely Heart on it.
