Two Kiwis ruled Game of Thrones last night

Warning: This article contains spoilers for season six of Game of Thrones.

One has captured the Mother of Dragons. The other butchered a would-be king by putting a spear through his head. Both were played by Kiwis.

Keisha Castle-Hughes appeared in a brutal scene during Game of Thrones' season six premiere, while new-comer, Joe Naufahu made his debut as Khal Moro, a Dothraki leader who has captured the mother of dragons, Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke.

Castle-Hughes who plays Sand Snake Obara showed off her skills with a spear when she plunged it through the skull of her cousin, Prince Trystane Martell, the heir to the throne of Dorne.

It was not a pretty scene. Obara's killing of Trystane was by order of her mother, Ellaria Sand, widowed wife of Oberyn Martell.

Earlier in the episode, we'd seen Ellaria kill Doran Martell, Oberyn's older brother and Trystane's father. It looks as though Ellaria is lining herself up to be the new ruler of Dorne.

Meanwhile, Naufahu is introduced to Thrones fans when Daenerys is brought to him. His wives tell Khal Moro he should kill Daenerys, claiming she is a witch, but Moro instead wants the Mother of Dragons to give him a child.

Daenerys then reveals that she was wed to the now dead Khal Drogo, but to her dismay Moro informs her that although no other Khal is allowed to touch her, she must be sent to live with the widows of the Khals.

Naufahu told The Hollywood Reporter his character "is a bit of a brute".

"But he's also quite loyal. He follows traditions very strictly. He's loyal to the living, and he's loyal to the dead as well. He's not as much of a chauvinist as some of the other Dothraki."

It's likely we'll be seeing more of both Castle-Hughes and Naufahu in more of the upcoming Game of Thrones episodes.
