TVNZ reporter Rebecca Wright reveals 'shock' pregnancy

Rebecca Wright is facing three challenges: a pregnancy, a new job at TVNZ, and home renovations.

Hard-nosed TV reporter Rebecca Wright has opened up about her "shock" pregnancy with her partner of five years.

The former TV3 reporter, who recently moved to TV One, tells this week's edition of Woman's Day she is expecting a girl in July - but she wasn't expecting to get pregnant for at least another year.

"I got a bit of a hurry up from my doctor who warned us it could take up to a year for me to fall pregnant," Wright says.

"But it only took us two weeks, so it was a bit of a shock! A happy shock, because we really wanted a baby, but still a shock."

As well as starting a new job while pregnant, Wright is also renovating her inner city home before the baby arrives with her partner of five years, Cam Williams.

She tells WD she was nervous about telling her new boss that she'd be starting at TV One while five months pregnant.

"He didn't know at the time I was pregnant and I hadn't really put that out there. I just wanted to negotiate a new job without having that complicate things. But then I had to call and say ... 'I'm five months pregnant'.

"He was just like, 'No problem'. It was so good."

Wright says since starting at TVNZ she's been given some of Toni Street's old maternity clothes to wear, and will return to work after three months while Williams takes over newborn duties.

Wright is known for her hard-hitting brand of news reporting, and for relentlessly chasing politicians and news figures to ask them tough questions.

She has worked at 3News, Campbell Live and The Paul Henry Show.
