TVNZ greenlight second season of Our First Home

The Schreuder Family after winning the first season of Our First Home.

Reality renovating competition Our First Home has been confirmed for a second series, with TVNZ calling for aspiring reality stars to come forward.

The show, which screened on TV One earlier this year, saw parents buy and renovate a house to help their children and partners get on the property ladder.

The renovated homes were then sold, with profits going towards their offspring's first home.

Four teams will compete to make the most money at auction, with a $100,000 prize up for grabs.

Last season's winners, the Schreuder family, also won a $20,000 African safari and $10,000 spending money.

TVNZ Head of Content Jeff Latch says he is looking forward to the second series.

"This is a series that really resonated with Kiwis, and season two will be even bigger and better."

The Schreuder family made $190,400 profit on the sale of their Titirangi house, on top of their $100,000 winnings.

The Gourley family earned $143,500 from their sale, while the Wardlaws earned the most at $228,550 profit. However, the Schreuders were declared the winners as they made the biggest profit in percentage terms to the original value of the house.

Winning daughter Karen describes the experience as "a once in a lifetime opportunity".

"As a family we all had such a great time. We can't wait to get on the renovation of our own house."

TVNZ says the show averaged over 375,000 viewers per week, though it faced stiff competition from The X Factor NZ on TV3 during the first weeks of its run. The latter has not been renewed.

Families wanting to take part next series can apply now. The show is set to air in 2016.
