TV3 is cancelling its midday Newshub news bulletin

Samantha Hayes will co-host a series of online-only features replacing Newshub's Midday news bulletin.

Newshub's midday news bulletin is being axed and replaced by a series of digital news features available only online.

The news was included in a press release issued today that announced Newshub Midday would broadcast its final show on July 1.

It will be replaced with a series of online videos called Newshub Explains, "providing context, background and explanation of the day's news, issues and major events, tailored to audience interests".

"While the change will involve some reallocation of work, no jobs will be impacted," the statement said.

Newshub Explains will be hosted by its Newshub's 6pm bulletin hosts Samantha Hayes and Mike McRoberts, as well as other Newshub journalists.

"It gives people the ability to choose which stories they watch and when, and allows us to make the most of our world-class studio and production capabilities," said Newshub head of digital news Jono Hutchison.

It will be available to viewers across its app, website and social platforms.

It comes during a period of change at MediaWorks, with the network recently losing long-serving hosts John Campbell and Hilary Barry, as well as head of news Mark Jennings, and a lengthy list of experienced presenters, journalists and producers.

On Friday, Rachel Glucina left the network's gossip website venture Scout with the network saying it would "focus its Entertainment News into Newshub".

Samantha Hayes was recently named as Hilary Barry's successor on Newshub at 6pm, while Ingrid Hipkiss took over Barry's newsreading duties on Paul Henry.
