Another week, another superhero hits the screens.
Actually there's two - the new series of The Flash starting tonight is followed immediately by a third season of Arrow (TV2, 9.30pm). Barry Allen (played by Glee alumni Grant Gustin) appeared earlier in two episodes of the show about the bow 'n' arrow-wielding vigilante. The new series also has connections to a previous screen incarnation - John Wesley Shipp, who played The Flash in the one-season 1990 show plays Barry Allen's father.
For those who haven't encountered the red-suited one as he's blurred his way through 74 years of DC comics, here's a quick refresh on his TV incarnation: Allen witnesses his mother's murder. With his father wrongly accused, he is adopted by a detective's family. He becomes a crime scene analyst but is involved in a lab accident in which a particle accelerator explodes.
He awakes from a coma to find he's the fastest man alive and vows to fight crime using his powers, and to solve his mother's murder ...
