The relaxing, serene atmosphere of the Brokenwood Golf Club is shattered in this week's mystery. A group of erstwhile golfers, committee members no less, gather for their regular Wednesday morning round, enjoying the lush green grounds and easy camaraderie.
The colourful quartet (look out for some illustrious Kiwi actors in entertaining outfits) are playing their approaches to the first green when a zombie-like figure lurches from the early-morning gloom, coming towards them. It takes the golfers a moment or two (apparently) to realise this is actually Adele Stone, the Club owner - her face red and blistering; gasping desperately for breath.
Then she falls from sight, into a greenside bunker.
By the time the golfers get to her, Ms Stone is unfortunately very much dead. And so Detectives Mike Shepherd and Kristin Sims are called to investigate what appears to be homicide by poisoning.
Who would want Ms Stone dead, and why, is a curly question, and the unconventional pair have quite the mystery to unfold as the tricky politics of a golf club come into play.
