They've just announced this week that they're going to take a two-year break from Sol3 Mio to pursue their individual opera careers (as they always said they would), but you can get your warm fuzzy fix from tenor brothers Pene and Amitai Pati and their baritone cousin Moses Mackay with this special concert filmed live at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington last year.
What better soundtrack is there for wrapping presents than the rich, swoon-worthy tones of this trio singing everything from beloved opera pieces to classic showtunes, and a few crowd-pleasing Kiwi favourites. And of course, their signature comedic banter will be sprinkled liberally throughout as well, with their playful rivalry and one-upmanship offsetting their sincere gratitude and "follow your dreams" moments of inspirational speaking.
The 22-song setlist begins with nearly an hour of selected arias - the serious stuff, which nails down their opera credentials, interspersed with some delightful explanations of the context and meaning.
Then they delve into show tunes like Bring Him Home from Les Miserables, Maria from West Side Story, along with popular classics like Hallelujah, Songbird, My Way, and of course Ten Guitars, and imbue it all with a fresh, effortless mastery of showmanship, which is why they've managed to become the biggest-selling act in New Zealand two times over.
