EXCLUSIVE - It was the photo everybody wanted but former power couple Alison Mau and Simon Dallow agreed to pose only for Spy on Thursday night at the TiVo launch (pictures here).
The TVNZ newscasters, who have both recently returned from abroad where they holidayed as a family at Disneyland, put on smiles for our snapper, but it was clear from Dallow's body language that he had some trouble cuddling up in an intimate embrace and putting on a happy face.
Mau, wearing a ring on her wedding finger, was a lot more comfortable and relaxed. It is the first photo of the couple together since they announced their split in June.
Meanwhile, rumous this week week emanating from NewstalkZB had breakfast duo MIKATE having a romantic interlude in the city of lovers, Paris, hinting at the possibility the
foppish-haired one was planning on going down on bended knee.
But one half of the lovebirds completely scotched the rumour. "Bonjour," Kate Hawkesby joked to Spy, "that Paris rumour is such a crack-up. The rumours about us are always so much more exciting than our actual life. Nowhere near
France. Just at home juggling kids as usual."
Hawkesby is gearing up to return to TVNZ at the end of the month for the highly anticipated party of the year: the 40th anniversary of the network's news.
But there is a possibility she may make the return more permanent. Hawkesby is meeting Anthony Flannery to discuss the possibility of a comeback role, though she told Spy her interest is only in a part-time capacity.
Hawkesby had nothing but glowing words to say about Flannery and TVNZ today, compared to days gone past.
She left in 2007 after 12 years, where she presented Tonight, Headline News, Midday, Breakfast (alongside Mike Hosking) and One News - the youngest person to do so.
She said at the time of her departure that she wished to give priority to her young family and new baby. That same year her marriage to Richard Lyne broke up after 12 years together.
