The network says that the series will end next year, following a 10-episode season. That will be the show's seventh season.
The series stars Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse. Paquin works with her husband, actor Stephen Moyer, who plays a vampire.
The real-life couple became parents of twins last year.
The show has been a hit for HBO at a time it was looking for something new.
