The rag-tag bunch of players and musical outlaws who have played as part of Auckland's Gunslinger's Ball over the past two years are hitting the road for a six-date North Island tour.
It started out as an evening of country-fried revelry and has evolved into a full-blown musical mash-up of everything from alt-country and folk to cowboy punk and thigh-slapping blues.
The touring party will be made up of swamp blues, bluegrass and rockabilly band The Broadsides, local country legend and Americana aficionado Bernie Griffen and his band the Grifters, and folk rock troubadour Steve Abel.
The Gunslinger's Ball tour dates are: Cabana, Napier, Oct 18; Bodega, Wellington, Oct 19; Mayfair, New Plymouth, Oct 20; Gravity, Hamilton, Oct 26; Powerstation, Auckland, Oct 26; and Leigh Sawmill, Oct 27.
Meanwhile, New Year's festival Coromandel Gold has announced more acts including Channel One Sound System, led by British dub reggae selector Mikey Dread, and locals Homebrew, Ladi6, The Upbeats feat. Tali, and Slave's Log Cabin. They join Shapeshifter, De La Soul, Cut Copy, Fat Freddy's Drop, Kora, Shihad, Katchafire, Black Sun Empire, AHoriBuzz and Sola Rosa for the event on December 30 and 31 at Ohuka Farm, Whitianga.
