New York hip-hop duo Mobb Deep will play three New Zealand shows in April.
Nas was just in town to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his bonafide hip-hop classic Illmatic. It seems Mobb Deep are set to do the same.
Tickets are on sale for three Mobb Deep shows in April, celebrating their 1995 album The Infamous.
The Queensbridge duo will perform at The Foundry in Christchurch on April 16, Wellington's San Fran on April 17 and The Studio in Auckland on April 18.
Known for their dark flow, Havoc and Prodigy nailed their sound on their second album The Infamous, with grimy street tales like Survival of the Fittest and Shook Ones Part II.
The 33-year-old will showcase his solo output from two tender dance albums - 2010's The Boxer, and last year's well received Trick.
They're albums that encompass many facets of dance music, from the synth-driven dubstep of Everything You Wanted, to the mournful SBTRKT-style pop of Doubt, to the quieter, Burial-style trip-hop of Closer.
Kele says his love of dance music always came through Bloc Party's alt-rock racket, especially with the metronomic drumming of Matt Tong.
"Anyone who knows Bloc Party's music knows that we have always been very honest about our love of dance music," he says.
Tong has since left the band and Bloc Party are - depending on which report you read - either on hiatus, or working on a fifth album.
But Kele admits his solo career is about flying his dance flag at full mast.
"It's been quite eye-opening, seeing how you can manipulate a crowd by tweaking a mixer. "It's exciting seeing how the similarities of seemingly disparate worlds come together."
Tickets for the show go on sale tomorrow through Dash Tickets and Under the Radar.
