Guitar hero Johnny Marr, whose career extends from founding 80s British rock institution the Smiths to being an in-demand studio sideman to solo act is returning to New Zealand next February.
Marr, who was last in the country as a guest player in Neil Finn's supergroup 7 Worlds Collide shows and recording sessions, will play the Powerstation on Saturday February 7 during a six-date Australasian tour that follows the release of last year's acclaimed debut solo album The Messenger.
Marr's recent setlists indicate Smiths fans will have plenty to look forward to - he often performs the likes of Panic, How Soon is Now, There is a Light That Never Goes Out and other songs by the band in his shows.
His tour promoters are offering another incentive for ticket-buyers, a chance to win one of his signature Fender Jaguar guitars (go to www.frontiertouring.com/johnnymarr).
Presales for the Auckland show via frontiertouring.com start on October 2.
