The Jesus & Mary Chain, one of the most influential alternative British rock bands of the 1980s is returning to Auckland play its classic debut album in full.
The band led by Scottish siblings Jim and William Reid will perform its 1985 debut LP Psychocandy at the Powerstation on Friday March 4.
The album is considered a classic for its mix of high volume fuzz-toned guitars, deep reverb and melodies harking back to 1960s pop.
The band eventually split in 1999 after six albums reuniting to play the Coachella festival in California in 2007 where they featured actress Scarlett Johansson as guest vocalist - her film Lost in Translation had featured the band's song Just Like Honey.
While a new album has been apparently been in the works since the reunion, nothing has emerged other than the occasional song for soundtracks and retrospective compilations.
