KEY POINTS:
Keeping abreast with the news took on a whole new meaning on New Zealand television screens last night.
Former bikini streaker Lisa Lewis took to the air as New Zealand's first TV naked newsreader on Alt TV's Naked News Flash at 10pm.
Her appearance was preceded by an "adults only" warning, and then Lewis appeared topless and read a few brief items before crossing to the naked weather.
Lewis made her name when she ran on to the pitch during the All Black vs Ireland rugby test in Hamilton in 2006 wearing only a bikini.
For that escapade she was charged with disorderly behaviour and fined $200, court costs $130, though she was reported to have collected $4010 when she auctioned the bikini she wore.
But while Lewis may be the first topless newsreader on New Zealand television, she is not the first newsreader to appear topless.
That "honour" goes to popular broadcaster Angela D'Audney, who died aged 57 in February 2002, after being diagnosed with a brain tumour the previous year.
She worked as a reporter, presenter and talkshow host on radio, and presented regional and arts programmes on TVNZ before becoming one of its national newsreaders.
D'Audney also appeared as an actress, creating a controversy when she appeared topless in an early TV play, The Venus Touch.
