Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have urged their rapper son Chester to steer clear of social media sites.
Chester Hanks, who uses the moniker Chet Haze, came under fire earlier this month for his use of the N-word on Instagram, but the aspiring musician insisted the term transcends race and is used to express "camaraderie and love" in the hip-hop community.
When quizzed about his famous parents' views on the racial controversy, the 24 year old revealed that they urged him to step away from social media, but he is adamant they do not understand how his generation uses the sites.
While out and about in Santa Monica, California, he told TMZ, "My parents are just making sure I'm good, they don't really tell me what to do any more because I'm grown (up), they just be making sure I'm happy, I'm safe. That's all... My parents they be telling me to just stay off social media period... They would be like, 'Don't be on Instagram so much' but they're the old generation, they don't get it. This is the new generation. We do things differently now. If you don't get it, you're not going to get it (sic)."
