KEY POINTS:
Don't do it Justin. Please, don't do it. Britney's not worth it. You can sing about your former cheating lover on Cry Me A River but she's not worth jumping off the stage for. It's been over for years.
You see, at one point tonight at Birmingham Arena during this dramatic song, Timberlake teeters on the edge of a long runway-like stage that extends into the crowd. He's within spitting distance of me.
All the girls - and quite a few guys - scream and reach out for their precious Justin, half wanting to touch him and half wanting to save him from falling.
It turns out he's just toying with us. As he's about to fall, he pulls himself back, strikes a pose and smiles cheekily. He is so over Britney.
Besides being cheeky, Timberlake is many things during the two hour-plus FutureSex/LoveShow performance which comes to Vector Arena in October. He's geeky (in his beige cap and waist coat), staunch (tonight's version of Sexy Back could possibly be the heaviest pop song I've ever heard), and, of course, he wouldn't be Justin Timberlake if he wasn't sexy.
He's also more than a little vain considering the way he wanders round with a hand-held video camera, beaming images of himself, including close-ups of his crotch, on to giant see-through screens surrounding the stage.
That sort of behaviour is easy to scoff at, but you have to admire this flirtatious dynamo.
And besides, when you're J.T. you can afford to show off. He sings, he dances, he plays a beautiful white guitar, and he tickles the piano keys like a true player.
Of special note are his dancers, who actually look like real people rather than a bunch of gyrating robots, as is the case with most pop acts.
As you'd expect he plays all his hits, like Senorita and Rock Your Body, from his debut solo album Justified, What Goes Around ... from latest album FutureSex/LoveSounds, and even 'N Sync's Gone during a mid-show medley.
The great thing about the show is how the songs are heavier and more jolting than the often robotic and lightweight sound of his albums. Even ballads like My Love and What Goes Around, with Timberlake playing the piano that rises up from out of the stage, are beefy. The stand-out track though is Sexy Back - proof that Timberlake is the undisputed king of pop.
