KEY POINTS:
The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra's Mahler 2 - The Resurrection became the first sell out show of the Auckland Festival, AK07, yesterday.
Festival director David Malacari said he was thrilled with the news and ticket sales for the rest of the festival were going very well.
"A couple of others are very close to selling out. Tickets sales are up 30 per cent from the last festival," said Mr Malacari.
"But there are still plenty of tickets left for people wanting to come along."
Public interest in New Zealand shows was particularly prevalent this year, said Mr Malacari, especially in the Tuwhare concert.
"It's terrific. I think it's a real compliment to the standard of local work."
Other shows eliciting strong public interest include La Clique, Ronnie Burket, Max Black and Head.
Auckland Festival, AK07, begins next Friday, March 9 and runs until Sunday, March 25.
The festival will showcase more than 65 acts from around the world at various venues across Auckland.
