There could be another purpose to This Town. Yes, it's yet another televised wander around the heartland, ones where various locals tell us about their various locales.
Though in this one, there's no on-screen presenters prodding them into it.
But the show could also inspire some ideas in big smoke dwellers about where they could go if they flicked their overpriced houses and could afford somewhere else. Motueka and its surrounds sure look nice in the second season opener. And the locals sure do have a lot of hobbies and passions and no one seems to work in a dreary office.
In the first show there's everyone from a superannuated marching squad to twin sister circus acrobats Nele and Jola Siezen to blokes running the local rodeo to blokes who took on fixing the local saltwater swimming pool.
No, they're not all memorable and, yes, you get the feeling the second series might have cast its net for local characters wide rather than deep.
