KEY POINTS:
The End of the Golden Weather
Bruce Mason's classic one-man play is 56 years old this year, and it hasn't aged a bit. Performed by Mason through the 50s and 60s, and made into a film by Ian Mune. It is set in Takapuna in the 1930s, and tells the story of 12-year-old Geoff Crome. Geoff is looking forward to his summer holiday and makes friends with Firpo, who wants to enter the Olympic Games.
The three-hour play has been edited into a 70-minute script, and stars the terrific Stephan Lovatt, directed by Mark Clare. The production is nearing the end of a long tour so don't miss The End of the Golden Weather, Civic Theatre, Rotorua, tonight at 8pm and the Bruce Mason Centre, Sunday at 2pm.
